The ER310 is the strongest all-around choice for most households. Its six-AA backup compartment provides a simple fallback that the smaller ER210 and higher-capacity ER310PRO do not advertise. Choose the ER210 for a compact go bag or vehicle kit. Choose the ER310PRO when a much larger internal battery, USB-C charging, and phone top-ups are more useful than replaceable-battery flexibility.
What NOAA alerts can—and cannot—do
NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts official warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information around the clock. These three portable models receive NOAA channels and can sound an alert, but Midland does not advertise Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) county programming on them. A SAME-capable tabletop receiver is the better bedside choice when you want alerts filtered to selected counties. Find and test the correct local NOAA frequency before severe weather arrives.
Treat solar and the crank as last-resort charging
Midland describes the small solar panels as a way to maintain or extend a charge, not as a fast primary charger. Fully charge the internal battery by USB before storing the radio, then recharge it every three to six months.
