The GB40 is enough for most gasoline family vehicles and is the value choice when it costs meaningfully less. The GBX45 is the better product overall because it adds output headroom, supports larger diesel engines, and recharges far faster through USB-C Power Delivery.
Engine size is the first filter
Stay within the manufacturer’s engine-size and voltage limits. A higher peak-current number is not permission to use the unit on an incompatible battery system or damaged battery.
Storage habits matter more than the logo
A jump starter that has discharged in the trunk is useless. Check its charge on a schedule, store it within the stated temperature range, and keep the cable and instructions with the unit.
Use it as emergency equipment
Read the manufacturer’s safety instructions before the emergency. Do not attempt to jump-start a frozen or damaged battery, keep sparks and flames away, and use eye protection around lead-acid batteries.
